Call for Applications – Internal Faculty Fellow 2022-23
The McLuhan Centre for Culture and Technology invites applications for our inaugural Faculty Fellows program, in academic year 2022–23. All full-time University of Toronto teaching faculty (tenured or tenure track in teaching or research streams, or CLTAs, appointed at any U of T campus) are eligible to apply to be the Internal Faculty Fellow. There will also be two External Faculty Fellows.
The Fellows’ research projects will intersect with the Centre’s 2022–23 annual theme, “Our Selfies, Our Selves.” This theme is dedicated to the critical study of contemporary media technologies of the self and/or technologized selves, with methods and perspectives drawn from across the humanities and qualitative social sciences. We welcome applications from any discipline, department, or field. We are especially eager to receive applications that approach such questions from critical perspectives that centre marginalized selves: queer, trans, feminist, crip, antiracist, abolitionist, decolonial, Indigenous, diasporic, transnational, and so on.
Fellows will be invited to visit the Centre’s Artist in Residence’s exhibition, occurring early in the academic year (September 12–October 15). This exhibition will also engage theme, “Our Selfies, Our Selves.” The Fellow will then be invited to deliver one of the Centre’s Fellows’ Lectures in Winter 2023, which should be written for the occasion and proceed from a conversation with the Artist in Residence’s exhibition. We anticipate that these Lectures, along with documentation of the exhibition, will be published by the Centre.
The Fellow will have access to the Coach House space for the 2022–23 academic year, will have access to the Centre’s graduate research assistant(s), and will receive a $2,000 research allowance. We hope that the Internal Faculty Fellow will participate regularly in the Centre’s programming, including attending the Monday Night Seminars and Playtime sessions.
To apply to be our inaugural Internal Faculty Fellow, please submit the following to email@example.com, not later than Tuesday, May 31, 2022:
Cover letter briefly outlining the candidate’s recent and current research projects, and connecting them to the annual theme (not more than 2 pages, please—and less if you can muster it)
Recent writing sample (scholarly article or book chapter, published or in manuscript)
