DEADLINE TO APPLY: JUNE 15, 2023

Call for Applications – Graduate Fellows 2023/24

The Centre for Culture and Technology invites applications for Graduate Fellows for the 2023–24 academic year.

Graduate Fellows will be doctoral candidates (must have passed exams and had a dissertation proposal approved) from any department, program, or discipline at the University of Toronto. Graduate fellows will be working on questions of contemporary or historical media and mediation, using humanistic or critical/qualitative social scientific approaches. We are especially eager to receive applications from candidates whose work intersects with this year’s theme, “How Media Count”, although that is emphatically not a requirement.

Graduate Fellows will receive:

  • a stipend of $5,000

  • access to the Centre Coach House

  • access to the Centre’s ever-growing collection of media technologies

  • ongoing mentoring from the Director of the Centre

  • research assistance from the Centre’s RAs

Graduate Fellows will be required to attend all Monday Night Seminars and to participate in the Centre’s Graduate Workshop (attend all meetings and present a dissertation chapter in-progress).

Preference will be given to students who have submitted at least one dissertation chapter.

Four fellowships will be awarded.

To apply, please submit the following materials by email to cultureandtech@utoronto.ca not later than June 15, 2023:

  • cover letter outlining the candidate’s research, stakes, and progress (not more than 1 page)

  • CV

  • letter of support from their dissertation supervisor (emailed directly to cultureandtech@utoronto.ca)

  • a writing sample (scholarly article or dissertation chapter, in published or manuscript form)

Any inquiries about this program can be sent to cultureandtech@utoronto.ca.
